A family’s selection of an elementary/middle school for their child is a critical decision, because these early grades create a scaffold for all future academic experience. Westerly School offers an outstanding, comprehensive educational program to help build skill and knowledge in a warm, stimulating environment.

The admission process allows parents and the school to determine the right fit between the student and Westerly.

To help the school assess the applicant’s readiness, the admission committee considers several factors including: prior school records; individual or standardized testing results; confidential teacher and pre-school director recommendations; a school visit; and personal interview of candidates and parents or guardians. Westerly is not equipped to meet the needs of students with severe disciplinary issues or significant developmental challenges.

To help prospective parents and applicants understand Westerly, the admission office provides frequent campus tours, an interview with the Director of Admissions, references from existing parents, and a full information packet.

Westerly seeks a socio-economically diverse student body and, therefore, offers confidential, need-based financial aid to many families who complete the aid questionnaires available in the admission office. Approximately one third of Westerly families currently participate in this program that insures access to the school by families who might otherwise not be able to afford the cost of tuition and fees.

To fully understand the scope and depth of the Westerly School program, prospective parents and interested educators are invited to attend the Community Visitors Tours from 9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. by reservation:

Call (562) 981-3151 to RSVP

Note: there are no Community Visitors Tours currently scheduled. Please call for more information about visiting Westerly.

During the tour, small groups of visitors hear from the school’s leadership, tour classrooms, studios and labs, and then reconvene briefly to ask questions.

If a group tour is not convenient, please call or e-mail the Admission Office to arrange for a personal tour. You are welcome to see first-hand the Westerly School community.

For more information please contact Ms. Kalim Rayburn, the Assistant Head of School and Director of Admissions at admission@westerlyschool.org or (562) 981-3151.

Westerly School seeks diversity and admits students of any race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin and family background.  It does not discriminate in the administration of its educational policies, financial aid programs, and athletic or any other school-administered programs.
