The Westerly Community Includes Active Parents Parents volunteer their time depending upon their interests, skills and time available. All help is welcome and appreciated. A truly successful school depends upon every parent. There are many programs and events that could not happen without the time and energy of parent volunteers. The Annual Westerly Auction is fun and rewarding way to be involved, meet other families, and contribute to the ongoing support of the school. The Chairs and their Committees and volunteers work almost year-round on planning and organizing the event so that it is a success each year. The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) – is comprised of volunteers dedicated to facilitating Westerly School events and meetings that provide educational and social opportunities for all members of the Westerly community. The PTO Executive Board consists of co-facilitators, a secretary, a treasurer, and a teacher liaison. The PTO Committee-at-Large includes, but is not limited to, the Head of School, Director of Development and parent volunteers. There are room parents for each grade and for specialty academic departments. These parents facilitate the flow of information between the school and home. They also arrange volunteers to assist teachers for short or long term activities or trips. Wildcats Boosters (Athletic Department) – Volunteers are needed to help with the athletic events throughout the school year. Backstage Boosters (Music Department) – Volunteers are needed to help with the musical performances throughout the school year. Friends of the Library – Volunteers are needed to help with the library throughout the year (checking shelves, organizing guest readers, hanging pictures/student artwork, etc…) and help with Book Buddies, especially for Grandparents Day. If you would like to learn more about any of these or volunteer opportunities, please contact Christine Downie in the Development Office at (562) 981-3151 or by e-mail to cdownie@westerlyschool.org. |
