Social Studies in 2nd Grade

Students in second grade build on their understandings of communities to explore the lives of actual people who make a difference in their everyday lives. Students learn the stories of extraordinary people from history whose achievements have touched them, directly or indirectly and are able to build connections to who they are and the decisions they make in their own lives.  Significantly, the study of contemporary people who supply goods and services, also aids in understanding the complex interdependence in our free-market system.

Through asking essential questions, students engage in the following skills:
  • Families Today & Long Ago
  • People, Places & Environments
  • How Government Works
  • Economics: Good & Services
  • People Who Make a Difference
