Math in 4th Grade
In 4th grade math, students have the opportunity to build on the foundations of 3rd grade through introduction to more multi-step calculations and deeper conceptual understanding. Students work together to problem-solve, complete projects, and develop their understandings and skills across three mathematical areas:
- Developing understanding and fluency with multi-digit multiplication, and developing an understanding of dividing to find quotients involving multi-digit dividends
- Developing an understanding of fraction equivalence, addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators, and multiplication of fractions by whole numbers
- Understanding that geometric figures can be analyzed and classified based on their properties, such as having parallel sides, perpendicular sides, particular angle measures, and symmetry.
Concepts we focus on include:
- Operations and Algebraic Thinking
- Number and Operations in Base Ten
- Number and Operations Fractions
- Measurement and Data
- Geometry
