The most valuable way to prepare our children to become tomorrow’s leaders is to give them real opportunities to lead. That’s why Westerly offers a Student Leadership course for students K-8.
The Student Leadership class charges students with managing campus events and projects, and making our school an even stronger place to gather, study and grow. Unlike a typical student government, Student Leadership allows children to collectively share the roles and responsibilities of their work throughout the year. This includes organizing dances, spirit days, toy drives, service days, and holiday celebrations. The group even organizes funding for these events by managing and generating revenue through a pizza business. In addition, some students work on independent projects throughout the year to further hone their personal passions.
Student Leadership is offered to students of all grade levels.
- The K-5 class enrollment is decided via class election and meets bi-weekly during lunch periods.
- The Middle School class enrollment requires an application with reference signatures and meets weekly during Independent Study.
